INSTALLATION OF A VIBRATING TABLE IN GEOTECHNICAL CENTRIFUGE

In 2010, CCM has installed a vibrating table, with a hydraulic sustentation, in a geotechnical centrifuge because it could be used to perform seismic testing.

This machine allows to simulate, on physical reduced scale models (up to 1:100), the events of an earthquake and the effects they produce.

It is possible to reproduce a structure in a miniature, such as a building, or a condition, can be also an embankment, and in this structure, inside the centrifuge, can be imposed an earthquake.

In Europe there are only 2 other seismic centrifuges, in Nantes (F) and in Cambridge (UK) (source: Italian local television “Telelombardia,” news of 16th April 2010).

In the video section of this website it’s possible to see one of these tests filmed inside the centrifuge and the reportage made at the customer.

Sectors of application:

Seismic test on a vibrating table installed in a geotechnical centrifuge

A reduced-scale model is inserted in the centrifuge, representing an embankment with 2 buildings on it. During the acceleration of the centrifuge, the arm that carries the model rises and goes to lean on the vibrating table, then the table imposes the seismic shock and finally the effects on the model are seen.
